New Gaming Technology To Adapt To In 2022
The world has come a long way from the 2-dimensional retro gaming era. Gone are the days of playing PacMan in the arcade. As the years go by, gaming technology has allowed users to experience more immersive graphics and interactive gameplay options. In 2022, these advances are more pronounced than ever before. We are entering a new era of gaming is virtual reality technology takes the lead in the race for digitization. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves – here is some of the most recent and interesting gaming technology to adapt to in 2022.
Cloud-based gaming services
One sticking point in the gaming industry for the past several years has been the bottleneck caused by outdated hardware. As developers work on creating more elaborate stories with even more impressive graphics than the previous iteration, users find that their PCs from just a few years ago are struggling to keep up with the newly imposed demands. As a result, users would have to upgrade their PC components frequently. Gaming enthusiasts that use laptops would find that certain games were unplayable till they purchased a newer, more powerful laptop.
Cloud-based gaming services are a promising development in the gaming technology space. The way they function is that a user can play the game they wish to play through the cloud without having the necessary hardware at their disposal. Instead of running the game locally on their PC or laptop, the user is playing the game through a server farm which is streaming real-time video of the game.
While cloud-based gaming technology solutions have been around for a while, they had one glaring problem – Latency. However, with the recent advancements in internet speeds and the adoption of 5G technology, cloud-based gaming services have become more viable than ever before.
Accessibility to VR tech & the MetaWorld
Like cloud-based gaming technology services, Virtual reality headsets for gaming have been around for some time now. When the first few virtual reality headsets were launched, gaming enthusiasts around the world were fascinated by them. It was a huge step towards making gaming experiences more immersive. However, their steep prices made it hard for the average user to invest in them. As a result, big corporations did not initially seem keen on joining the Virtual Reality wave.
In the recent past though, these headsets have seen a significant drop in their price, and as a result, their accessibility. It’s also widely regarded that with the advent of the Metaverse, VR technology is going to allow users to access “MetaWorlds” to further boost the degree of immersion they provide. Users will be able to interact with other players in real-time, in three-dimensional space.
Large corporations like Apple, Samsung, and Meta, are set to launch VR headsets later this year to capitalize on the current metaverse trends.
Car gaming (Tesla & Ford)
It’s no surprise that Tesla is behind some of the more interesting advancements in modern transport technology. What’s interesting is how Tesla also seems to be spearheading a movement outside of electric vehicles- car gaming.
Tesla introduced gaming features in its Model 3 where users could game on the large interactive screen in the car. While this was an interesting route to take, to say the least, it wasn’t without criticism. Tesla came under fire when a user found that he was able to still play these games while driving. As this could potentially lead to disastrous consequences, a software update was rolled out that allowed users to play only when the vehicle was parked.
While some believed that such a system was just a gimmick, it seems like other car manufacturers are starting to take notice and implement their gaming systems in their vehicles. Ford is the second car manufacturer to provide users with a built-in gaming rig in its F-150 Lightning pickup truck.
Better Portability
When it comes to portable gaming technology, gaming laptops come to mind. The problem? The devices have to sacrifice design and bulk for good cooling and raw power. When gaming laptops initially came out, they were heavy, and not easy to carry around. Compared to devices like the Macbook, they seemed like they did not belong in the same category.
The reason behind this is processors and graphic performance units generate a lot of heat under stress. They need adequate cooling for the longevity of the devices. Until recently, it was exceedingly difficult to make laptops that were both small, as well as powerful. You would have to sacrifice one or the other. In 2022, gaming technology has reached a point where we see powerful laptops in 13 & 14-inch form factors that come close to rivaling their 17-inch counterparts, and even PC setups in some cases.
This is in large part due to the improvements made in processor and GPU efficiencies. More efficient parts emit less heat. Liquid metal technology and vapor chamber coolers also play a large part in keeping these smaller devices cool. They are significantly more effective at regulating the machine’s temperature than inbuilt fan systems. Companies like Razer, Asus, and Lenovo have several portable gaming laptops to choose from, with more on the way later this year.
Improved Graphics performance
Graphic processing units have seen a stark increase in their efficiency and power in the last few years. Gaming displays have higher resolutions and lower latency than ever before. As a result, games have begun to look hyperrealistic.
Graphics tend to get better naturally as the years go by and technology improves. What’s different today is how accessible these changes are for the average consumer. 4k gaming is cheaper than it’s ever been before, and we have processors with enough horsepower to justify playing certain games at resolutions that high.
To sum up
Virtual games have come a long way in 2022 – from improvements in their graphic performance to being able to enter the Meta World using avatars. Even with all of these advancements, ultimately, all games are made of code at their core.
